About

I walk on the ground and the ground’s walked on by me, I breathe the air and change it, I am entirely interconnected with the world.
— Ursula K. Le Guin, The Lathe of Heaven

Hello

I’m Eleanore (she/they). From a young age I was encouraged to be outside and be curious, and that’s lead to a love of science, history, and the natural world. While I’m an archaeology major, my interests are boundless. I am always learning, asking questions, and mulling over topics. I started Eleanore’s Field Notes to share what I know about archaeology and environmentalism, as well as what I’m learning.

When I’m not researching, I can be found in the woods with my camera, or in my apartment with a book. I hope you enjoy my newsletter as much as I do!

The Newsletter

Eleanore’s Field Notes is a curiosity-led newsletter. It’s my notes from what I’m learning in class, but it’s also the results of falling down rabbit holes and seeing what I find. Topics include the practice of archaeology, archaeological sites, and environmentalism in North America.

My Academic Background

I spent three years as an ancient studies and archaeology major in Ontario before transferring to a university in British Columbia to continue my education. My focus is on North American archaeology, though my interests include ecology, botany, geology, geography, and more.

Anti-AI Statement

I do not use generative AI in any of my research, writing, editing, or in any other aspect of my life. It has a detrimental cost to the natural world, harms communities, and steals from my fellow creatives. I similarly will not engage with any other accounts or professionals who use AI. No part of my newsletters or website may be fed into an LLM.
